Wispr Flow Review & Tutorial
What if you could type perfectly... just by talking into your phone?
Seriously ā Iām not just talking about regular voice-to-text that gives you a hot mess of filler words and awkward phrasing.
Iām talking about an AI-powered voice dictation app that listens to how you actually speak, and turns it into polished writing that sounds like you ā only better.
Either keep reading or watch the video below:
Wispr Flow is the first voice app Iāve used that feels like it actually gets how I think. And there's one feature I absolutely have to show you ā especially if you use Asana, because this fixes something Iāve been wanting forever.
So in this video, Iām going to walk you through exactly how Wispr Flow works ā from real-world examples to pro tips thatāll save you serious time.
Plus, Iāll share how I use it in my daily work as a service provider, content creator, and busy mom running a business.
Wispr Flow just launched on iOS ā and if you're not already using it, you're missing out on one of the fastest, cleanest, and most intuitive voice tools Iāve tested.
Flow lets you speak naturally ā like you're leaving a voice memo to a friend ā and it writes what you actually meant to say.
It edits out the āumsā and āuhs,ā adds punctuation automatically, and even adapts how it writes depending on the app youāre in.
You can use it inside your email app, DMs, Notes, Slack, Notion ā even Asana, which Iāll show you soon.
Iām going to demo how it works in a few real-world apps, share a couple advanced features like Course Correction and Command Mode, and wrap up with how Iāve personally been using this to get through emails, content planning, and daily business ops way faster.
What Makes Wispr Flow Different
Hereās the deal: most voice-to-text apps just transcribe you word for word. Thatās not super helpful when you speak like a human, not like a punctuation robot.
Flow was built to bridge that gap.
ā It listens to you speak naturallyā¦
ā Writes polished, structured sentencesā¦
ā And formats your thoughts into text that actually makes sense to a reader.
You donāt need to memorize weird voice commands for punctuation.
You donāt need to reread every line to fix it up after.
And if you change your mind mid-sentence, Flow just goes with it.
For example, if I say:
āLetās meet tomorrow ā actually, letās do Friday insteadā
you can seeā¦it writes that as a clean, corrected sentence without the messy trail of corrections.
How to Use It
Okay, I want to walk you through how to actually use Flow ā because once you know the basics, itās super easy to integrate into your day.
Here's how to use it on your computer.
To start dictatingā¦
ā¦all you do is hold down the hotkey.
On Mac, itās the Fn key
On Windows, itās Ctrl + Win
You hold it, speak naturally, and when youāre done, just release.
Flow instantly converts what you said into polished text, and pastes it right where your cursor is.
Seriously ā the first time I used it, I was like⦠wait, thatās it?
You can also turn on Hands-Free Mode so you don't have to continue to hold those keys down the whole time. This is helpful for longer writing sessions.
Hereās how:
Just press your hotkey + the space bar. That activates Flow and keeps it listening. When youāre done speaking, hit your hotkey again to paste your text.
This is a lifesaver if youāre brain-dumping into Notes, drafting a long email, or writing content where you just want to talk it out without worrying about keys.
š§ And letās talk about settings for a second.
When I first installed Flow, Iāll be honest ā I found the little floating bubble toolbar kind of annoying.
It just hovered on my screen when I wasn't using it, and I didnāt love that.
But good news: you can totally turn that off.
Just head into the Flow app settings, and thereās a simple toggle to hide the toolbar. I switched that off within the first hour and never looked back. So if that floating button bugs you too, now you know how to fix it!
While you're in the settings, you can also:
Change your hotkey if the default feels awkward
Choose your preferred language(s)
Enable Command Mode
And adjust auto-formatting preferences
Flow is super customizable, so take two minutes to poke around those settings when you install it ā itās worth it.
Real-World Uses
It works in any app you're working in! Which is huge.
Let me show you how it works in some different tools that I regularly use.
šØ In Email (like Gmail or Apple Mail)
Instead of typing our a long response, speak it. Flow formats it into clean, professional paragraphs. This will save you so much time replying to client emails while walking on the beach or waiting in the car pickup line. Because #MomLife
š¬ In Messages or Slack
I'll show you in WhatsApp, because I honestly rarely use Slack. Now WhatsApp does have the voice notes feature, but if you're not a fan of voice memos or it's just not the right time or situation for them ā Flow is perfect. You speak your message, it writes it clearly, and you send it like a regular text. Fast, clean, and no audio clutter.
Even random apps like this sticky notes app I have on my computer
Hold your hotkeys, start talking, and youāll see your thoughts appear instantly ā without filler words, grammar mistakes, or weird formatting.
šAnd now, of course... my personal favourite: Asana!
Okay ā but seriously. Iāve said for years that Asana needs a voice note feature. It drives me nuts that I canāt just talk out a quick task comment when Iām multitasking or send out a voice note. There is one feature on the Asana app that lets you do voice to test - but only when creating a task. Not for commenting or anything else. And no options for this on the computer. But guess what? With Wispr Flow, now you can do this anywhere in Asana!!
You can open any Asana task, tap into the comment box, and start talking using Flow. It writes a perfectly formatted, clear update ā way faster than typing it out. Game-changer if youāre managing multiple clients or leaving quick instructions for your VA.
Advanced Features
Now letās get into some of the pro-level features that make Flow even more powerful:
š Push-to-Talk vs Hands-Free
You can use Push-to-Talk mode (just hold the mic button) for quick stuff.
Or turn on Hands-Free mode if youāre writing a long doc or brain-dumping notes.
š” Course Correction
Changed your mind halfway through a sentence? Flow handles that smoothly. It listens for āactuallyā or āwait,ā and adjusts the sentence accordingly. You donāt have to stop and start over.
š ļø Custom Language & Lingo
Flow learns your phrases, acronyms, and even client names over time. Super handy if you use brand-specific terms.
š 100+ Languages
Yes, this works in over 100 languages. And if youāre part of a global team or client base, thatās huge. I personally love that it works great with international accents, too ā something other tools really struggle with.
āļø Command Mode
This oneās fun. Highlight a chunk of text in any app, then say āHey Flowā and give it a command ā like āmake this friendlierā or āturn this into bullet pointsā ā and itāll rewrite it right in the same tone.
Honestly, tools like this are the reason Iām able to get so much done each week while still having time for beach days with my daughter or quick mid-day power naps (because perimenopause lol).
Try it for free ā youāll get a weekly word limit to start. If you want unlimited dictation, syncing between mobile and desktop, and bonus features like Command Mode, you can upgrade to Pro.
Honestly? The free version is more than enough to get started and see if it fits your workflow. (Spoiler: it will.)
But you can also try out the pro features free for a whole month using my link. Click here to get started!
To wrap it up:
š§ Flow is smart enough to understand your natural speech.
š” Itās intuitive enough to work in any app, anywhere.
ā” And itās fast enough to save you hours each week ā especially if youāre running a business from your phone like so many of us are.
If this sounds like the kind of tool that could save you time (or at least your thumbs), download Flow and try it out today.
