Why I Don’t Charge Extra for Payment Plans (and Why Accessibility Matters in Business)
I remember what it was like to start my business.
I really wanted to invest in resources and programs that could help me grow — but I had to be very careful about what I spent money on. Because, truthfully, I just didn’t have the funds yet. Every dollar mattered.
So when I came across a course or program that offered a payment plan without any extra fees, it always felt like such a relief. A little “finally, someone gets it” moment.
Why Extra Fees on Payment Plans Never Felt Right to Me
To me, it never seemed fair to charge more to the people who actually needed the payment plan.
If someone can’t afford to pay in full upfront, it really sucks to be penalized and forced to pay more over time — just because you can’t afford it all at once.
For a while, I got caught up in what other businesses were doing — following the so-called “best practices” everyone seemed to recommend.
And I totally understand why people do it.
It does take more admin work to manage multiple payments.
And yes, sometimes people don’t follow through with future installments.
But even with all that considered, I still feel a certain kind of way about it.
My Personal Policy on Payment Plans
That’s why when I provide a payment plan option, there will never be extra fees or penalties.
If a payment plan helps make the investment more accessible, I want it to feel supportive, not stressful.
It’s important to me that the people who need the most flexibility don’t end up paying more for it.
Because accessibility shouldn’t come with a price tag.
A Note to Fellow Business Owners
If you’ve ever wrestled with how to structure your payment plans, here’s my take:
You get to make decisions that align with your values — not just what “everyone else” is doing.
It’s okay to prioritize people over profits sometimes.
It’s okay to create systems that feel ethical and human.
And honestly? Your customers will notice.
TL;DR: Why I Don’t Add Fees to Payment Plans
I believe that people who need flexibility shouldn’t be penalized for it. That’s why my payment plans always cost the same as pay-in-full options — no hidden fees, no extra interest, no shame.
Because making your offers more accessible should feel empowering, not punishing.
